Cycling Club Breckland

founded and based at Carbrooke

In 1975 local Government was undergoing a number of changes and Carbrooke found itself part of the new Breckland District Council. Later that same year Albert Saunders, prompted by calls for a new cycling club for the area, called an inaugural meeting to form C.C. Breckland with Albert, his wife Margaret and son Don amongst the founder members.

Breckland, a hither to little known part of the countryside and especially unknown in the cycling world, suddenly became a major force in the time trialling world when from 1977 onwards commenced what can be termed the Golden Years for CC Breckland. Apart from winning numerous individual local events things moved up a notch to national level when Martin Pyne won the blue ribband event in the National 25-mile time trial and with help from club mates Richard Bradley and Simon Warren also won the team prize.

The club continues to promote cycling events of distances from 10 to 100 miles in open events in addition to running a series of club events mid-week from April to September in a points competition.
