Carbrooke Enclosure Claim 1

The Right Honourable Katherine Baroness Dowager Howard de Walden & Braybrooke.  

Her Ladyship claims the several manors of Carbrooke, late of the hospital of St. John, and Carbrooke Woodhall, with all the rights, privileges and appurtenances thereto respectively belonging.

Also a messuage cottage and 451A. 2R. 0P. of land in the occupation of Robert Alpe.

Also a messuage, and 349A.3R.14P of land, in the occupation of John Murrell.

Also a message 57A. of land in the occupation of Benj. Barker, Esq.

Also a parcel of land called Watton Meadow, containing 4A.1R.36P. in the occupation of the Reverend Mr. Scott.

Also a parcel of meadow land, in the occupation of John Lusher, containing 6A.1 R. 28P.

Also a parcel of land, quantity  presently undefined, in the farm belonging to Peter Henry Barker, for which a yearly rent of £4. is paid to Lady Howard.  

All Freehold and situate in Carbrooke   Her Ladyship claims, in right of her said manors, to be entitled to the soil of all the said fens, commons and waste lands in Carbrooke.

Also claims, in respect of her said messuages, cottage, and lands, to be entitled to a right of common of pasture, for great and all other commonable cattle, levant and couchant thereon respectively,  in, over and upon all fens, commons and waste lands, in Carbrooke, and at all-time in the year, except  sheep, claimed  for as hereafter-mentioned.

Also claims, for and in respect of her said manors, farms, and premises, to be entitled to a fould-course for 500 ewe sheep, (accounting six score to the hundred) with their lambs, in, over, and upon 270 acres or thereabouts of the said all the commons, and waste lands in Carbrooke at all times in the year, which said fould-course hath for some time been held with the said farm in the use of the said Benjamin Barker except  sheep.

Also claims a right of feeding and depasturing the said sheep, in, over, and upon the several fields, called Mill-field and Badley-field, in Carbrooke, aforesaid from Old Holymas ( the beginning of November) to Old Lady-day, in every year, when not sown with corn.

Also claim, in respect of her said messuages and cottage, to be entitled to a right of cutting and taking flags, turves and furzes for necessary fuel, upon the fens, commons and waste lands in Carbrooke.

Also claims a right of digging and taking clay and sand, for repairing of her said messuages, cottage and buildings, upon and from the commons and waste lands in Carbrooke.

Also claims all other rights and privileges to her said premises belonging.
